Update! Raht's amazing recovery
 You may remember a little donkey named Raht who was featured in our recent appeal about the Pegasus equine shelter in Israel. Raht had been abandoned by his owner and was found by a group of children who wrapped a sheet around him, covered it in kerosene and set it on fire, leaving the donkey with horrific burns. He was rushed to the Pegasus shelter in critical condition.
Of course, many people contacted us to express their concern about Raht, so we're pleased to be able to share that after extensive care and attention from the Pegasus staff there is almost no sign of the terrible injuries he received. See the photos of Raht's amazing recovery.

Bullfighting success in Bogotá
 Good news from Colombia! The Mayor of Bogotá, the largest city in Columbia, has shown support for banning bullfighting by starting to close the city's bullring.
Last year during this mayoral election, WSPA persuaded all the candidates to take a strong position on animal welfare issues. Now that Gustavo Petro has been elected, he is keen to stop bullfighting and use the city's bullring for educational and artistic activities instead.
An official statement from the government said "bullfights are linked to activities that can be considered torture, inflicting pain and violence on the animals...the policy in Bogotá is to protect animals from cruel treatment."

Global meeting delivers mixed results for whales
 After a week of debate, the 64th annual International Whaling Commission (IWC) meeting has concluded with both successes and disappointments for those committed to protecting marine mammals. WSPA was there throughout, advocating for better whale welfare and protection.
The good news: We are delighted that the IWC’s conservation and welfare agenda, which tackles issues like pollution, ship strikes and entanglements, continues to expand directly in line with WSPA recommendations.
The bad news: Proposals were vetoed by several nations for a South Atlantic whale sanctuary.
