Animals are often the forgotten victims of disasters and surviving animals suffer the effects of flood, drought and other emergency situations. By helping animals put at risk by disasters, we stop their suffering and help whole communities recover.

WSPA is the only international organization with full-time staff trained to provide immediate relief to animals caught in the aftermath of disasters.

Sea turtles need your help

A turtle being handled by a visitor to the Cayman Turtle FarJoin the more than 72,000 people around the world who have already taken action to help stop sea turtle farming. We need your voice too.

At the Cayman Turtle farm, sea turtles are neglected, overcrowded, handled by tourists and kept in filthy waters. As long as there is sea turtle farming, there is shocking animal cruelty.

Life in the tanks at the Cayman Turtle farm is a living hell for sea turtles. They are so stressed they turn on each other, biting and maiming.

This horror is all in pursuit of profit. While a few lucky sea turtles are released, far more will be slaughtered and sold as steaks or burgers.

We need your help to stop this. Sign the petition now to end this nightmare.

Watch our video to find out more.

Dear  Activelid'S Links ,
In the bear bile industry, a cub will not have a name, but a number. I have named him Bēishāng, which means sadness. He symbolizes all the horror and cruelty of the bear bile industry in China.
I’m not going to tell you the whole story - you can read it now at www.wspa.ca/endbearbilenow. But I can tell you two things: First, Bēishāng is one of approximately 20,000 bears and cubs that the bear bile industry in China has in its clutches. Second, the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) wants to bring an end to the bear bile industry in five years. But it can’t happen without your donation today.
A living hell.
Cage Bear 1The bear bile industry exploits bears mercilessly and never misses an opportunity to make money out of them. Bears are used on an industrial scale, for their bile - a digestive juice stored in the gall bladder. Bear bile is prized by some traditional Chinese medicine practitioners as an active ingredient in remedies for liver conditions, sore eyes, hemorrhoids and other ailments.
To extract the bile, Bēishāng’s belly is pierced to create a hole that is never allowed to heal. A metal rod or plastic tube is forced deep inside him to drain his bile. This happens every day. Up to three times a day. You can help make it stop.

More horrific facts.
WSPA research in 2005 and 2006 revealed that there is no real basis or need to use bear bile at all. Alternatives are available. So all the bears’ suffering is purely for profit. And in 2006, bear bile products were sold in Canada. Maybe in your city or province. Read the full reports and see if your city or province was involved at www.wspa.ca/endbearbilenow.
Cage Bear 2 You don’t have to stand by helplessly as bears’ body fluids are drained daily. Your gift could help make it STOP.

  • $26 could help support crucial research so we can pressure authorities to introduce a decree that will lead to an end of the bear bile industry and protect thousands of bears from future suffering.
  • $55 could help WSPA reach out to people in China, show them the horrors of the industry, the majesty of bears, and how they are vital to becoming bear protectors.
  • $143 could help fund research into the illegal worldwide trade in bile, to tighten enforcement, choke the supply and protect vulnerable bears in the wild.

Or you could join the Animal Rescue Team with a monthly gift of $20, $30 or $40 to help protect bears and other animals from suffering a living hell. Please click here to make your monthly donation now.
With your gift today, China could be a place where no more cubs will be born into this living hell. Instead, all bears in China could be protected from having their bile cruelly drained again.
Sincerely,

Stop the Polar Bear Eviction

Help save the lives of polar bears threatened by habitat destruction. Please take action...

Take Action to Give Polar Bears a Home

Save Polar Bears

Polar Bear (Paul A. Simone)

Polar bears are just one of the many species that make their homes in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Take Action!

Sign our petition to President Obama encouraging him to continue to oppose Arctic Refuge drilling legislation and to support stronger protection for the most important onshore denning habitat for America’s threatened polar bears.

Share on Facebook! Share on Facebook

Dear Activelids,

Polar bears den, as they have for centuries, on the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, mercifully free from oil spills and the disruption that comes with oil and gas drilling activities.

But that could all change soon, as U.S. House Speaker John Boehner continues to push for dangerous drilling in the most important onshore denning habitat for America’s threatened polar bears.

Urge President Obama to stand up for polar bears and other wildlife. Sign our petition encouraging the president to continue to oppose Arctic Refuge drilling legislation and to support wilderness designation for this important and pristine place.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is the crown jewel of America’s National Wildlife Refuge System – and the most important onshore denning habitat for U.S. polar bears.

But Speaker Boehner is now advancing legislation to open up the most sensitive pristine parts of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to destructive drilling.

An oil spill could be cataclysmic for the polar bears and other wildlife that lives here, but there are other risks too. The noise and disruption that comes from drilling and road construction can disturb denning polar bear mothers, causing them to abandon their cubs to die.

Help save polar bears. Urge President Obama to support stronger protections for polar bear homes.

America’s polar bears are already threatened by climate change that is robbing them of vital habitat, and the last thing they need is an eviction notice from Big Oil. In fact, many scientists say that U.S. polar bears could disappear in the wild in the next few decades without our help.

Defenders of Wildlife is fighting hard for legislation to help animals like the polar bear survive the threat of climate change, but we can’t save these animals without your help…and we can’t ensure that they will be around for future generations if Big Oil is allowed to drill in the habitat they need to survive.

Be a part of the solution. Sign our petition and tell President Obama that you want him to continue to oppose drilling legislation and to support stronger protections for vital polar bear homes.

Respectfully,

Jamie Rappaport Clark, Defenders of Wildlife Jamie Rappaport Clark
President
