WSPA Enews: bears, hens, turtles, gifts

WSPA ENEWS

IN THIS ISSUE:

Rescued Romanian bears are home for the holidays

Rescued Romanian bears have amazing new home for the holidayThanks to the support of people like you, WSPA and our local partner Asociatia Milioane de Prieteni (AMP) have finished the extension on the enclosure of the Zarnesti bear sanctuary, now the largest bear sanctuary in Europe.

WSPA wanted to be able to provide a safe and natural space for bears rescued from miserable captivity that are unable to return to the wild. And now, five new rescued bears have been given a life of freedom at the sanctuary.

These five bears will be the first to live in the recently built final enclosure where they will be able to bathe in the rock pools, climb trees and forage for berries and acorns on the forested slopes.

Choose cage-free and give our feathered friends a better life

Choose cage-free and give our feathered friends a better lifWe are pleased to announce that we are updating our CHOOSE CAGE-FREE campaign, this time across North America, and we wanted you to know about it!

It's in a hen’s nature to lay her eggs in a nest, perch, scratch and strut about — but cages don't allow hens to do this. Our Choose Cage-Free campaign seeks to educate consumers about the real living conditions of hens in cages and promote the humane treatment and proper care of hens.

We are empowering everyone to commit to cage-free eggs and are working with farmers and businesses to adopt cage-free practices. With your support, we can ultimately improve the lives of millions of hens. Change is possible!

Do you know the shocking truth about turtle farming?

View a larger version of this imageSea turtles are amazing. These solitary swimmers cover thousands of miles. So just imagine the cruelty of trapping one in a small filthy tank. Now imagine hundreds, thousands. Packed together, sea turtles get sick and stressed.

Conditions at the Cayman Turtle Farm make it impossible for the turtles to express their natural behaviour and can lead to disease, injury and even cannibalism.

Take a look at our infographic and make sure everyone else sees it too. Share it on Facebook and help others to understand why sea turtle farming has to stop.
